A brief history of St Catherines
Designed by Arne Jacobsen, the college is Grade l listed. Part of the building has exposed thermal mass, improving energy consumption. Seminar rooms are naturally ventilated. Use of the college central heating system increases efficiency. Services were designed in detail to be sensitive to the setting.
The origin of today’s College was a ‘Delegacy’ (a non-collegiate organisation under the control of the University) founded in 1868 in order to provide access to an Oxford education for those who could not afford the costs of college membership. (More)
